Benefits of Learning How To Play Guitar
Learning to play the guitar involves both art and math. It helps children improve fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, builds self-esteem, as well as develops better concentration and memorization. Researchers at various universities worldwide have proven that music training in general leads to improvements in literacy, verbal memory, visiospatial processing, mathematics and IQ. These studies found particular changes in the attention systems of children who took music lessons, which affected their ability to pay attention to important things around them. A child with a superior attention system will be able to apply that in different domains. As a result they'll be able to focus in on what's important in a verbal learning task such as the ability to concentrate when figuring out a mathematical problem.
A recent Rockefeller Foundation Study found that students with a background of music lessons have the highest rate of admittance to medical schools, followed by biochemistry and the humanities. On SAT tests, the national average scores were 427 on the verbal and 476 on math.
After discovering these facts, it comes as no surprise that Albert Einstein loved music and studied violin and piano as a child!
Finally, when learning and playing a musical instrument, there's also a whole range of social skills that are being developed such as a sense of belonging and community and collaboration with one another. To help instill these values and help the students strive to achieve specific goals in their lessons, Miami Kids Guitar organizes a yearly recital in which students showcase their musical progress for family and friends.
